Comcast to Hook Up '9ers New Digs
Though the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl hopes have been dashed for this season, they and their fans can take some comfort in knowing that their new home field, Levi's Stadium, will be a technological marvel courtesy of Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA).
Comcast and NBCUniversal announced a 10-year agreement with the 49ers and Levi's Stadium under which the MSO will provide Ethernet, Internet, voice and video services in the 68,500-seat venue.
The 49ers will play their first NFL season at Levi's Stadium in 2014. The open-air stadium, which will host Super Bowl L in 2016, will feature stadium-wide WiFi access, mobile connectivity, IPTV, and HD video boards measuring more than 13,000 square feet. The stadium will also feature a ticketless, cashless infrastructure.
As part of the partnership, Comcast will provide fiber-based Ethernet Internet access and video capabilities throughout the stadium, sponsorship of free WiFi for fans, and cloud-based voice and unified communications services for employees at the stadium and at the team's corporate offices.
