NKTelco expands rural reach with Hometown Cable purchase

Aug. 16, 2023
This acquisition will bring a new set of products and services to 6,000 residents and businesses.

West Central Ohio-based NKTelco, which Schurz Communications owns, has acquired nearby Hometown Cable, giving customers access to fiber-based broadband and other services.

Existing Hometown Cable customers in Coldwater, St. Henry, Montezuma, and surrounding rural areas are now part of NKTelco. The companies operate adjacent to one another, making for a seamless transition.

This adds to its already growing base of communities it operates in today. NKTelco serves the New Knoxville, New Bremen, Minster, Ft. Loramie, Botkins, Anna, Maria Stein, Chickasaw, Osgood, Russia, Jackson Center, Sidney, Piqua, Versailles, Coldwater, St. Henry, and Montezuma communities.

During the next few months, as NKTelco integrates Hometown Cable into its operations, customers joining NKTelco from Hometown Cable will become part of the telco’s fiber optic ring.  The fiber ring will add continuity of service and status monitoring to all residents and businesses.

Former Hometown Cable customers can access Flight Data packages with multi-gigabit broadband speeds. Also, NKTelco plans to roll out NKT.tv, their new streaming service, including exclusive local sports programming from area high schools and colleges. All local sporting events will be available on demand.

Businesses will also benefit from a suite of services, including network-managed services, host client phone systems, and offsite Data Centers with Cyber Security services. As part of the acquisition, NKtelco also purchased the Fixed Wireless Network that operates in Mercer, Auglaize, Miami, and Darke counties.

Effective immediately, all Hometown Cable employees are part of NKTelco.

“NKTelco has extensive experience working with communities of this size,” said Preston Meyer, General Manager of NKTelco. “Our existing customers will see value added to their service as we continue to roll out new products and services.”

Meyer added, “We have worked side by side with the Hometown team for years and welcome them to the NKTelco family.”
