CommScope accepting orders for CommScope RD2322 (RxD) combo Remote PHY/Remote MACPHY device

The E6000n RD2322 RxD supports both Remote PHY (R-PHY) and Remote MACPHY, which the company says enables a smooth transition from one form of Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) to the other.

CommScope says its CommScope RD2322 Remote MACPHY (RxD), announced at last year’s SCTE Cable-Tec Expo (see "CommScope expands Distributed Access Architecture line with Remote MACPHY options"), is now available for order and deployment. The E6000n RD2322 RxD supports both Remote PHY (R-PHY) and Remote MACPHY, which the company says enables a smooth transition from one form of Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) to the other.

In keeping with the principles of DAA, used as a Remote PHY device, the RD2322 RxD improves headend density and power efficiency by moving PHY layer functionality from headend or hub to the fiber-optic node. In Remote MACPHY operation, the device enables removal of both the PHY and MACPHY layer functions to the fiber node. Either way, using the RD2322 RxD to place the digital-to-RF interface at the optical-to-coax boundary enables increased bandwidth capacity and improved fiber efficiencies. Deploying the RD2322 RxD also simplifies plant operations and decreases loads on headend facility space and power systems, CommScope says.
