Bluebird Network has expanded its broadband fiber-optic network in Hannibal, MO, through buried fiber routes. The city-run municipal network infrastructure serves the city, its agencies and local businesses, and provides the ability to connect other areas to the city.

The network expansion is intended to provide lateral build opportunities to connect nearby rural communities to the city, and ultimately to provide fiber for business growth within a planned industrial park.

"Broadband is a key factor when it comes to economic growth in the coming years. Hannibal is getting a head start by working with us to set up a fast and efficient broadband infrastructure for the city," said Michael Morey, president and CEO of Bluebird Network.

Heath Hall, general manager of Hannibal Board of Public Works said, "The relationship Hannibal Board of Public Works has built with Bluebird Network continues to be very positive for the organization as we continue to expand the city-operated fiber network. From the very beginning of the planning stages to the installation of fiber to connect critical field assets, the entire Bluebird Network team has been a pleasure to work with. Their knowledge and service in the communication industry is excellent, and their ability to coordinate with external installation partners made the deployment of the fiber simple from our perspective, and the reliability of the provided services is superb. As we move forward with expansion, we will continue to rely heavily upon their staff to ensure we have a successful outcome and a system that our city can rely on many years from now."

Bluebird Network, headquartered in Columbia, MO, has more than 6,500 fiber route miles of broadband and fiber-optic connections, as well as more than 135 points of presence (POPs) in Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Tulsa, Omaha, Des Moines, and Memphis.
