AT&T (NYSE:T) is launching G.fast-based Internet service in the Boston-area Meriel Marina Bay apartment complex.

G.fast runs over existing coaxial or CAT-5 cables. Initial Internet speeds will be up to 500 Mbps, with plans to add faster tiers later. DirecTV is also available through a centrally wired satellite system.

"While other Internet companies are leaving the city, we're finding new ways to connect Bostonians," said Ed Balcerzak, senior vice president, AT&T Connected Communities. "With G.fast, we can connect more Boston area residents to information, entertainment and their community. We're committed to providing connectivity to MDU residents in Boston. And we'll do it through G.fast and millimeter wave."

Other AT&T MDU service options include including fiber and millimeter-wave fixed wireless access.

AT&T G.fast-based service is currently available in MDUs in parts of Boston, Denver, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Seattle, and Tampa, FL. Additional planned deployments include:

  • Albany, Buffalo and Rochester, NY
  • Baltimore
  • Cincinnati
  • Colorado Springs
  • Hartford, CT
  • Omaha
  • Pittsburgh
  • Portland, OR
  • Providence, RI
  • Richmond, VA
  • Washington DC
  • Salt Lake City
