Slic Network Solutions has completed a public-private fiber-optic gigabit Internet network in the town of Long Lake, NY. The project, supported by a NYS Regional Council Award, delivers Internet service to more than 750 homes and businesses in and around the hamlet, as well as voice and video services. With the completion of the network, Long Lake becomes the Adirondacks' first gigabit fiber community.
Funded by a combination of State of New York grant money and investment from Slic, the 30-mile project is the first of eight Slic expansion communities supported by New York State and administered by the New York State Broadband Program Office. The remaining seven buildouts include the northern New York communities of Minerva, Newcomb, Schroon Lake, Bellmont, Lyon Mountain, and Black Lake.
Once completed, the projects are expected to add more than 320 route miles to Slic's existing 800 miles throughout northern New York. The new projects will provide connectivity to more than 4,700 homes and businesses that lack high-speed Internet access today. Slic currently provides services to 23 communities north of Long Lake.
