EXFO (NASDAQ:EXFO) announced the release of its FTBx-740C-DWC, a tunable OTDR designed to test through field mux/demux channels using the customer's wavelength to troubleshoot faulty fiber links or deliver first-time-right deployments during construction. The DWDM OTDR is intended to complement the company's CWDM OTDR and Ethernet test and measurement modules.

The new meter is designed to let technicians perform in-service tests from the headend to the customer's premises while locating problems and preventing SLA penalties and maintenance downtime periods. The single-ended OTDR test solution is intended to enable one technician to respond to network failures and to complement existing test procedures for CWDM deployments.

The unit is tunable in the C-band and covers channel spacing of 100 GHz/50 GHz based on the ITU-T standard grid. The tunable laser also features a high dynamic range for metro/long-haul applications.

The meter is designed to provide validation and fault-finding of the physical layer, along with Ethernet service assessment from 10M to 100G to ensure SLAs are met. It features a 12-inch touchscreen, modularity, Windows 8 and commodity applications.
