InventionShare, which provides inventors with funding, talent and processes, announced a new invention called 5by5 Wireless designed to allow cable companies to get into the wireless Internet business at a low cost across large rural areas with low population density or hard-to-reach island communities.
The full duplex wireless communications system is a 100% hardware solution. A single 360-degree antenna is designed to provide wireless coverage up to a radius of 25 miles from one base station.
5by5 Wireless uses the UHF 300-1,000 MHz frequency spectrum. The company says using 48 MHz of downstream bandwidth will provide data operating speed of 344 Mbps downstream, and 24 MHz of upstream bandwidth will provide 80 Mbps. The 5by5 Wireless circuit also is designed to provide full duplex over all spectrum to all wireless communications devices, and is platform agnostic. The service currently uses DOCSIS 3.1 and is LTE compliant. It's designed to to piggyback off existing infrastructure, including end points where fiber meets towers.
