Cox Communications is planning to deploy gigabit Internet service for residential customers in Virginia, starting in the town of Chesapeake and expanding to new developments across Virginia and in Cox locations across the country.

Signups for Cox gigabit service started earlier this month in Phoenix, and the first customer there is expected to go live later this week. Cox plans to have gigabit speeds in all of its markets by the end of 2016.

The company has also been upgrading the speeds of several of its existing Internet tiers in certain California markets.
