The City of Chattanooga announced that its municipal utility EPB will increase all residential and business customers' Internet service speeds to a minimum of 100 Mbps while upgrading thousands of customers to 1 Gbps. EPB, a nonprofit electrical service utility, runs a community-wide fiber network.Residential customers with current service of 100 Mbps or higher will be automatically upgraded to 1 Gbps service. The residential cost for the service will be $69.99 per month. Monthly charges for residential customers whose network speeds will increase from today's 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps will remain at $58. After the upgrade, nearly 50,000 homes and businesses in the Chattanooga area will have symmetrical speeds of 100 Mbps or faster. The upgrade is expected to be complete by Oct. 1.
