Envivio has launched two video processing hardware platforms, the Envivio G6 and Envivio X1 platforms, this week at BroadcastAsia 2015 in Singapore. Both use the latest generation Intel-based microprocessor/CPU technology, which the company says will enhance video quality and reduce expenses. The Envivio G6, based on Intel's Xeon Haswell CPUs, is available in a 1RU format (the 1000 series) with up to 16 SDI interfaces or a 2RU form factor (the 2000 series). Compared to previous platform generations, the G6 systems can process 30 percent more channels and provide 30 percent more transcoding of VOD libraries, simultaneously, Envivio asserts. Rack space requirements are reduced by 40 percent and power consumption by more than 30 percent as well, the company says. The Envivio X1 is for medium-sized headends that require a variety of input interfaces. It uses Intel Xeon E3 Haswell processors and is available in a 1RU chassis with multiple ingest possibilities, including IP ingest through MPEG-2 or up to eight analog or eight SDI inputs. The X1 offers significantly lower power consumption and cost per broadband channel versus other technologies and platforms, the company says.
