Lumos continues accelerating its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout strategy, bringing its service to nearly 3,000 homes in Crozet, Virginia.

In June 2022, the service provider began construction in Crozet, installing 60 miles of fiber to provide fiber internet access to more than 2,000 households.

Lumos is the first broadband provider in the areas it serves in Crozet, providing economic advantages that will benefit the community for decades. Access to Lumos’ fiber internet will enhance digital experiences for residents and small businesses, catalyzing economic growth.

“After planning and building our network over the last 15 months, we are excited to launch our services in Crozet,” said Derek Kelly, VP of market development for Lumos. “People have a growing reliance on technology, and fast, reliable internet is no longer a luxury, but a necessity for everyday life. We are excited to be able to improve the quality of life for the people of Crozet.”

While the recent ribbon cutting celebrates the beginning of Lumos’ service in Crozet, the telco has been actively enhancing its broadband service in Virginia for years, serving nearly 30 towns and cities throughout the state.

Similar to the builds it is taking in other parts of Virginia and North Carolina, the focus of the Crozet build is to connect the underserved parts of the community with fiber broadband.

Getting to this point wasn’t easy. The service provider had to navigate the usual process to access public and private rights of way.

“Thank you to Lumos for your partnership with the federal, state, and local funders to bring these needed services to Crozet residents,” said Ann Mallek, White Hall district supervisor representing Crozet. “The Lumos challenge was significant, bringing along contractors, such as those marking existing lines before new lines can be installed, working to resolve needs of landowners, and keeping the projects moving forward day after day.
