Fibersmith acquires Fail Engineering

The acquisition brings Fail Engineering’s multiple decades of experience and builds on the two companies’ long-standing partnership.

Fibersmith is on the acquisition trail again, acquiring Joseph D. Fail Engineering, which provides various services to the telecom and broadband industry.

The acquisition brings Fail Engineering’s 50 years of expertise and partnerships to Fibersmith’s operations and continues a long history of the two companies working together. Fail Engineering offers several solutions for the telecom industry, including outside-plant engineering, central office engineering, mechanized records and regulatory and RUS application assistance.

Some of Fail Engineering’s recent projects include work for RUS loan recipients for Dixie-Net Fiber, NTS Telephone, Jaguar Communications and Telephone Electronics Corporation (TEC).

Bay Springs, MS-based Fail Engineering, has had a longstanding relationship with Fibersmith, having worked together on several utility design and construction projects in several parts of the country throughout the last several years.

Fail Engineering will continue to operate out of Bay Springs, where the company has strong ties with the local community. The process to integrate Fail Engineering’s 39 employees is already underway.

Bob Fenlason, president of Fail Engineering, sees the acquisition as enhancing the reach of both companies. “We’ve enjoyed a relationship with Fibersmith and many of its team members for a long time,” he said. “This move will enable both of our companies to scale into new markets, utilize the skills of both sets of talented employees, and bring broadband to even more homes and businesses throughout the United States.”

Donny Smith, CEO of Fibersmith, agreed and emphasized that “our complementary teams will be a real asset to the telecom industry.”  

This is the second acquisition Fibersmith has made in recent months. In July, the company acquired Ahneman Kirby, a Connecticut-based civil and structural engineering firm, adding civil and structural engineering to the company’s service offerings.
