MaxLinear’s Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7 tri-band single chip solutions and tri-band access point selected for Wi-Fi Alliance test bed

Based on the upcoming IEEE 802.11be standard, the product family can deliver speeds up to twice as fast as the Wi-FI 6 generation.

On Jan. 8, MaxLinear, Inc. announced that Wi-Fi Alliance has certified MaxLinear’s Wi-Fi 7 chipsets and tri-band access point and has selected them as Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 7™ test bed devices. The Wi-Fi 7 certification issued by Wi-Fi Alliance verifies that upcoming Wi-Fi 7 devices can seamlessly interoperate and deliver high performance that meets the new standard.

Kevin Robinson, president and CEO of Wi-Fi Alliance, said in the same press release, “Wi-Fi certified helps ensure advanced Wi-Fi 7 features are deployed in a consistent way to help deliver high-quality user experiences. Test bed vendors like MaxLinear make up an important group of companies that are committed to bringing high-quality Wi-Fi 7 to market.”

The test bed uses the MaxLinear access point with three frequency bands: 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz, using the single Wi-Fi SoC. This access point reportedly improves speeds, capacity, and efficiency, suiting it for high-density environments. Maxlinear also reports that the access point includes 4K QAM, Multi Link Operations (MLO), Multi RU and puncturing, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, advanced beamforming, and power-saving enhancements.

The product family (MxL31712 and MxL31708) is based on the upcoming IEEE 802.11be standard and delivers 11.5 Gbps of peak throughput on the 6GHz (6E) spectrum, delivering speeds up to twice as fast as the Wi-Fi 6 generation. The Tri-band Access Point is combined into a single Wi-Fi SoC, improving performance and latency in Single User Single Link as well as Multi Link and multi-user scenarios.

MaxLinear’s XGSPON Home Gateway platform, which consumes less than 5.7 watts in idle mode and between 7.4 and 9 watts under typical use case scenarios, will be showcased at CES.
