Comcast has announced it has acquired Irvine, CA based XUMO, an advertising-supported streaming video service based in Irvine, CA. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. XUMO will operate as an independent business inside of Comcast Cable.

XUMO offers free, live and on-demand streaming entertainment, news, sports and other programming. The content is organized in a channel guide that currently features more than 190 different channels grouped by genre. The company has established a network of distribution partners, including smart television brands, to deliver its content on multiple screens globally, either natively or by app. Comcast was already an outlet via the Xfinity Flex service (see "Comcast launching $5 streaming service").

“The talented team at XUMO has created a successful, growing, and best-in-class set of streaming capabilities. We are excited for this team to join Comcast and look forward to supporting them as they continue to innovate and develop their offerings,” read an unattributed statement on Comcast’s website.
