According to a survey by Infonetics Research, the percentage of operators offering multiscreen video using residential gateways is projected to grow from 6% today to 50% by 2014. The research house believes the growth will be driven by operators looking for ways to differentiate basic services and reduce or prevent churn.Other findings indicate:


  • Broadband data, IPTV, WiFi hotspot access and VoIP are the main applications operator respondents are currently offering using residential gateways.


  • The number of operators offering home automation services using residential gateways is expected to grow to 44% by 2014.


  • More than half of respondents are using copper Ethernet to deliver broadband services.


  • Huawei and ZTE are perceived as the top residential gateway vendors by more than a third of survey respondents.
