Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has announced plans to launch Xfinity Mobile, a wireless service designed around smartphone Internet and data use. The service, which can be bundled with other Xfinity services, will use Comcast's 16 million WiFi hotspots and an unnamed 4G LTE network (Comcast says it's the largest in the country, so presumably either Verizon or AT&T). Available devices will include smartphones from Apple, Samsung and LG.

"We're doing mobile differently by bringing our customers the best networks and a product designed to save them money in an increasingly data-driven world," said Greg Butz, president of Comcast Mobile. "Mobility is more important than ever to consumers, so we've designed Xfinity Mobile the way mobile should be - a simple solution for Internet and entertainment in and out of the home."

Features include:

  • Up to five lines automatically included when Xfinity Mobile is bundled with Xfinity Internet service, no line access fees, unlimited talk and text, and the first 100 MB of shared 4G LTE data included at no extra cost
  • Two data options: unlimited for $65 per line or by the gigabyte for $12 per GB of cellular data across all lines. The options can be mixed and matched and switched back and forth at no charge.
  • Auto-connection to Comcast WiFi hotspots and other Xfinity apps
  • 24/7 customer support
  • An Xfinity Mobile app to manage the account
