18 September 2003 Copenhagen -- NKT Integration, a planar waveguide wafer foundry, and LioniX, a provider of solutions based on optical microsystem technology and MEMS, have agreed that NKT Integration will provide its foundry services to support LioniX in its development of integrated optical solutions.
As the applications of integrated optics based on silica-on-silicon and SiON-on-silicon Planar Lightwave Circuits proliferate within especially the telecom and sensor markets, an increasing need for outsourcing of wafer fabrication arises. Foundry services give customers economical access to installed volume capacity and technology leadership and allow a company like LioniX to focus on developing customised solutions.
Hans van den Vlekkert, CEO, LioniX, said, "Our customers will benefit from this collaboration through reduced time-to-market, high yield, high reliability, and cost-effectiveness of the provided optical solutions.
Lars Rønn, CEO, NKT Integration, said, "LioniX has good know-how within the field of advanced optical microsystems, both for telecom and sensor applications. NKT will benefit from LioniX's technology position and market access."
NKT Integration
The company develops integrated photonic solutions for metropolitan and long haul optical networks, as well as non-telecom applications. Its "high-performance" planar light guide circuit platforms address the needs for compact customisation, increased functionality, and performance, and at the same time provide network equipment designers with increased cost competitiveness and reduced time to market cycles.
The company has operations in Denmark, the US, and Canada. NKT Integration is a company in the NKT Holding A/S group of companies.
