5 December 2003 Palo Alto, CA Lightwave -- OEwaves Inc., a manufacturer of ultra-low phase noise, high-frequency signal sources and related components, has chosen Agilent Technologies' photonics manufacturing facility in Boeblingen, Germany, to package and manufacture the former's patented fixed-tuned optoelectronic oscillators (OEOs). Agilent and OEwaves also announced that they will collaborate in the development of future OEOs.

As part of the first agreement, Agilent's photonics and packaging team produced a specially designed manufacturing process, working in collaboration with OEwaves' team of RF and photonic engineers.

"There has been intensive cooperation by both teams on the design and implementation of our product packaging and manufacturing," said Mark Henderson, chief operating officer of OEwaves. "We are delighted to partner with a respected industry leader to bring the next generation of our OEOs to market."

"Agilent's photonic integration and packaging platform, combined with OEwaves' unique OEO technology, creates a leap forward in the performance and integration of the OEO," said Werner Huettemann, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Communications Network Solutions business unit. "We are very pleased about the prospects for these collaborations and see a high potential for photonic-based oscillators in various applications."

As part of the second agreement, Agilent and OEwaves plan to collaborate in the development of future OEOs. OEOs are designed to provide greatly improved phase noise performance and tuning agility. The OEOs from this development effort are expected to provide a superior microwave oscillator component for aerospace and defense manufacturers as well as Agilent's test and measurement products.
