World Wide Packets and Hitachi-IT forge strategic partnership

Aug. 8, 2001
Aug. 8, 2001--World Wide Packets and Hitachi-IT will offer customers comprehensive broadband solutions designed to address the burgeoning multi-tenant and multi-dwelling (MxU) markets in Japan.

World Wide Packets, a solutions provider for Ethernet broadband connectivity, and Hitachi Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Hitachi-IT), an information technology network integrator, announced an agreement establishing a strategic Ethernet to the Subscriber broadband partnership in Japan.

Under terms of the agreement, World Wide Packets and Hitachi-IT will offer customers comprehensive broadband solutions designed to aggressively address emerging high-growth opportunities, specifically the burgeoning multi-tenant and multi-dwelling (MxU) markets in Japan.

To address these growing markets, Hitachi-IT has established a new internal business group known as the "Broadband Business Center," and will provide Japan with a comprehensive Ethernet broadband offering through a combination of World Wide Packets' solutions, as well as Hitachi-IT's own manufactured products.

Hitachi-IT will provide complete product support and customer care on-site, backed up by World Wide Packets' Global Service and Support Division.

The products comprising World Wide Packets' LightningEdge infrastructure solution include:

1) the LightningEdge Access Portal, providing up to a full Gigabit of dedicated bandwidth for simultaneous transmission of voice, video and data;

2) the LightningEdge Access Concentrator, delivering up to one Gigabit to the building and up to 100 Mbps to each subscriber,

3) the LightningEdge Access Distributor, allowing service providers to connect seamlessly with subscribers over standard Gigabit Ethernet or 10 Gigabit Ethernet links, increasing service deployment flexibility; and

4) the LightningEdge Network Supervisor, comprehensive management and provisioning software allowing voice, video and data to become provisioning options from the service provider to their subscriber base, rather than individual applications from separate providers.
