"Many of our customers have expressed an interest in partnering with FCI in fiber optics," contends Rodd R. Ruland, director of business development for FCI's Fiber Optics Division. "The 1x2 single mode optical switch is an excellent extension of our current passive fiber-optic product portfolio."

The acquisition enables AIFOtec to streamline its product portfolio to focus more on metro core transmitter and what it calls "Hybrid Integration Technology" products.

Connector manufacturer FCI (Paris) operates more than 60 production plants in 29 countries and its activities are geared toward seven major markets: communications, data, consumer, industrial and instrumentation, military and aerospace, automotive, and energy.

AIFOtec (Munich, Germany) produces both active and passive products, including a range of ITU DWDM transmitters and receivers, fiber grating lasers, and Hybrid Integrated Technology systems focused on meeting the needs and new requirements for Metropolitan Area Networking.
