XO Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: XOXO), a provider of broadband communications solutions, announced it has introduced OC-12 (622 Mbps), OC-48 (2.5 Gbps) and OC-192 (10 Gbps) capacity metro wavelength services in each of its 62 U.S. markets.
The XO Metro Wavelength Service (MWS) is a protected service that provides carrier and enterprise customers with high bandwidth and protocol transparent flexibility at a low cost per megabit. By offering a protected service, XO can manage and maintain its customers' services and provision additional metro wavelengths, all without service interruption.
Made possible by XO's deployment of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment in its metro fiber networks, XO MWS provides each customer with a wavelength of light on a fiber optic strand, which is used exclusively for that customer's service and can operate at different bit rates and support different transport protocols (e.g., SONET, ATM, IP, etc.). Using its robust metro fiber networks, the XO MWS currently delivers up to 33 separate wavelengths of capacity per fiber strand and provides a competitive advantage to customers by offering greater network capacity and scalability at lower transport and capital costs.
XO Communications has launched its Metro Wavelength Services to offer carrier and enterprise customers the ability to realize dedicated and protected OC-12 to OC-192 (622Mbps to 10Gbps) capacity between multiple sites within a metro area. This service delivers flexible, high-speed capacity that can be used to extend the reach of customers' networks and manage network gaps, while enabling them to quickly provision high capacity circuits to complete a SONET ring or connect two or more locations within a metropolitan area.
