Optical transport equipment market revenues predicted to reach $16.6 billion by 2014
FEBRUARY 4, 2010 -- Revenue from the total worldwide optical transport equipment market should reach $16.6 billion in 2014, after resuming positive growth this year, predict analysts at market researcher Dell’Oro Group in Redwood City, Calif.
In addition, revenues from the 40/100 gigabit-per-second DWDM market should reach almost $3 billion between now and 2014, Dell'Oro analysts say in a newly released optical forecast report.
"We forecast positive growth of the optical equipment market this year and through 2014,” says Jimmy Yu, director of optical transport research at Dell’Oro Group.
“We should see a couple of the optical equipment segments benefit from the focus that telecom service providers are placing on high bandwidth consumer services such as wireless 3G data and video," Yu says. "As these services expand, we predict more 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps wavelengths will be used to bring the necessary capacity into the backbone network cost effectively. We also forecast that nearly one-third of DWDM long haul and WDM metro revenues will be 40/100 Gbps DWDM by 2014."
