12 January 2004 Overland Park, KS Lightwave--Sprint today announced that it has expanded its optical transmission equipment portfolio with the addition of White Rock Networks. Sprint North Supply will sell White Rock's family of Optical Metro Transport products to network service providers including its VLX2020 OC-48/OC-192 SONET ADM.

"Our carrier clients tell us they will be increasing spending on their metro optical infrastructure in order to deliver more bandwidth out to the edge," said Brad Clark, vice president of marketing for Sprint North Supply. "As a result, we have an interest in the innovative approach White Rock has taken to produce an attractive price-performance model for their products and consider them to be an excellent new component of optical network solutions Sprint North Supply can provide."

White Rock's VLX2020 provides a low first-cost, inexpensive, simple-to-grow solution for SONET-based metro optical networks that offers a full range of services from DS1 up to OC-192 including both fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. White Rock's building-block product family also includes products from the photonic layer such as the VLX1010 WDM system, which provides both coarse and dense (CWDM/DWDM) wavelength solutions for metropolitan networks. The modular approach of the VLX2020 allows carriers to incorporate new technology faster than older, highly integrated, architectures while potentially reducing both capital and operating expenditures simultaneously.

"We are pleased to have cemented a distribution relationship with one of the industry's premier channels for network equipment and deployment solutions," added Lonnie Martin, founder and chief executive officer of White Rock Networks. "We expect Sprint North Supply's sales coverage, commitment to customer service, and solution selling capabilities to substantially increase White Rock's market penetration."
