June 23, 2004 Chicago, IL -- Movaz Networks and Parama Networks announced at Supercomm that they will collaborate to use Parama's "ADM-on-a-Chip" on a number of designs for the Movaz RAY family of wavelength services products, including the new reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer, the RAYROADM.
The collaboration is driven by new service provider requirements as they transition their networks to a converged transport model, featuring new equipment such as multi-service provisioning platforms (MSPPs) and multi-service transport platforms (MSTP). The new requirements include integrating electrical SONET/SDH with optical transport to achieve lower capital and operating costs and more flexible systems; simpler "per wavelength" service reconfiguration; a unified control plane; more efficient use of wavelengths via grooming; and a unified network management system.
"The ADM on a Chip has some very compelling properties, such as a centralized architecture, low power, and a high-level software environment, which is crucial in order to meet the evolving needs of our current and future customers," explains Bijan Khosravi, chairman and CEO of Movaz Networks. "One need is the ability to interconnect multiple rings and create virtual mesh networks and the ADM-on-a-Chip excels in this regard by allowing network designers to separate the physical design from the restoration design. This will result in much more efficient and less complex networks that feature design simplicity, easier maintenance, and full SONET/SDH reliability," he adds.
