Sri Reddy joins Basil Alwan as co-president of Nokia IP/Optical Networks business group
Nokia says it has appointed Sri Reddy co-president of the Nokia IP/Optical Networks business group and as a Group Leadership Team (GLT) member, effective immediately. He will split ION leadership responsibilities with Basil Alwan, who goes from sole president to now co-president of the ION business group. Alwan will continue as a GLT member and a CEO advisor.
Reddy's new duties will primarily include oversight of daily operational matters and jointly managing the strategy and overall ION business performance.
Founder of Timetra in 2000, Reddy has been essential in building the IP routing business from the ground up since then, says Nokia, leading the IP software engineering team for more than 10 years and the IP routing business unit for the past 5 years. Most recently, Reddy was senior vice president and general manager of I'N’s routing business unit. Before joining Nokia, he held leadership roles in Bay Networks, Timetra, and Alcatel-Lucent.
The GLT now comprises Rajeev Suri as chairman, Basil Alwan, Hans-Juergen Bill, Kathrin Buvac, Ashish Chowdhary, Joerg Erlemeier, Barry French, Sanjay Goel, Bhaskar Gorti, Federico Guillén, Gregory Lee, Kristian Pullola, Sri Reddy, Marc Rouanne, Maria Varsellona, and Marcus Weldon. Reddy will report to Suri in his new role, the company says.
"I am pleased to see the bench strength of great leaders at Nokia, which allows us to benefit from the capabilities of all our team members," said Suri. "I warmly welcome Sri to the GLT, and am pleased to continue my close collaboration with Basil."
Nokia recently unveiled the Photonic Service Engine 3 (PSE-3) coherent chipset to provide the ultimate in spectral efficiency using a digital signal processing (DSP) technology called probabilistic constellation shaping to increase fiber capacity by as much as 65% over current deployments. The company has been working on the technology for some time, with an emphasis on optical networks over the past two or three years, (see "Nokia touts ultimate in spectral efficiency via PSE-3 chipset and probabilistic constellation shaping").
