Doherty named operations VP

William J. Doherty has joined Astral Point Communications as vice president of operations, where he will be responsible for managing the company's contract manufacturing services, internal manufacturing, materials, quality, facilities, information systems, and other operations functions. Prior to joining the company, Doherty was general manager at Solectron's Westborough, MA, facility, where he was responsible for providing all contract manufacturing services to regional and global customers, while managing all day-to-day activities associated with the manufacturing operation.

Cannect Communications Inc. appointed Dan Bobowski senior vice president of operations, with overall responsibility for managing the company's engineering, network architecture/deployment strategies, operations, and customer service. He was formerly vice president at AT&T Canada, where he was responsible for local and long-distance services, CLEC operations, customer service, provisioning, sales, property management, and construction in British Columbia.
Wainwright

Jeffrey L. Wainwright has been appointed vice president of sales, marketing, and operations for Optrex America Inc., where he will be responsible for the continued market expansion throughout the Americas. Prior to joining the company, he worked at Hitachi and Ford Motor Co.

Robert S. Hilbert has been named CEO of Optical Research Associates. He has been with the company for 25 years and served as president before being named CEO.

J. Joseph King has been named vice chairman and CEO of Molex Inc. He was formerly president and chief operating officer of the company. Martin P. Slark, formerly executive vice president of the company, has been named president and COO.

Derek Montgomery has joined fSONA Communications Corp. as director of marketing, where he will be responsible for directing the company's Canadian manufacturing operations, including production, materials management, and quality assurance. He formerly worked at Cymbolic Sciences International, where he served as manufacturing engineering manager.

Cielo Communications has announced the promotion of Mike Dudek to vice president of product development. Dudek was previously director of advanced development, where he was instrumental in the engineering, development, and manufacture of the company's fiber-optic modules. In addition, Cielo Communications has announced the formation of its technical advisory board, which will assist the company's management team in various business segments, while helping to enhance the company's focus and direction. Cindy Burgdorf, a CPA, has spent 30 years in senior financial management in the high-tech industry before retiring last June. Dr. Robert A. Burmeister is currently president of Saratoga Technology Associates and has a broad background in technology management, with extensive experience in both industrial and academic research environments. Dr. Kent D. Choquette is currently a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was formerly a principle member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories. Jeff Fishburn is vice president of technology at Western Integrated Networks. He formerly worked at Lucent Technologies and AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he designed high-capacity metropolitan/backbone networks. Gary Nekula is chief technical officer at Pontio Communications Inc., where he is responsible for the network design and deployment of network equipment, including transport equipment, physical and virtual collocation, DSL technologies, and OSS systems. Jim Sackman is vice president and chief technical officer at AFC. Prior to his promotion, Sackman was director of hardware engineering for the company, where he was responsible for the development of the first DLC integrated ADSL card.

Alliance Fiber Optic Products Inc. has announced Dr. Wei-shin Tsay as senior vice president of product development, where he will be responsible for overseeing the company's strategic technology portfolio and implementing overall product development strategy. Most recently, he was the director of marketing for the Asia/Pacific region at the Transmission Systems Div. of JDS Uniphase.

Callisma Inc. has named Stephen Mucchetti, president and chief operating officer of Scient, to its board of directors. Mucchetti has more than 35 years of experience in technology consulting and services in a variety of senior executive and operating positions.

Richard Harper has joined Tenor Networks as vice president of sales, where he will be responsible for managing the company's sales and support functions, including professional services and training. He was director of global strategic accounts for the IP Services Business Unit of Nortel Networks, responsible for the global sales of the MCI and MCI WorldCom accounts.

Stuart Barnes has been appointed director of engineering for ilotron, where he will play a key role in the implementation of the rollout of the company's all-optical routers by the first quarter of next year. He will head up a team of 20 highly skilled engineers based in the engineering and R&D center at the University of Essex in Colchester, UK. Before joining ilotron, he spent three years as deputy technical director of the optical research division of Alcatel.

Mark Page has been named manager of cable assemblies at ITT Industries Cannon, where he will be responsible for developing and overseeing the company's value-added cable-assemblies programs. Prior to joining Cannon, he served as business operations and product marketing manager at Thomas & Betts Corp.
Horwitz

RIFOCS Corp. has named Dennis Horwitz vice president of marketing and business development, where he will be responsible for expanding the presence of the company in the domestic and international marketplace and for guiding the development of new products to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding fiber-optics industry. Horwitz, one of the founders of the company, was a co-founder of Photodyne prior to joining RIFOCS.

Dr. Simon Cao has been appointed chief technology officer of Avanex Corp., where he will be responsible for all technical decisions at the company. He is one of the founders of the company, and recently has served as senior vice president of product development. Walter Alessandrini, former president of the company, has been named CEO and chairman of the board. Paul R. Engle, former vice president and general manager of Agilent Technologies' Fiber Optic Communications Div., has been named president and chief operating officer.

Kymata Ltd. has appointed Mike Hickey as chief operating officer, where he will be responsible for overseeing the company's worldwide business, product, and supply-chain operations. He worked most recently at Motorola Inc. as vice president and director of PCS Operations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where he managed the company's multibillion-dollar cellular phone operations. He has been a director on the U.K. board of Motorola Ltd. for the past three years.

Robert J. Amman has been named chairman, president, and CEO of Global Tele Systems Inc. Amman has been president and chief operating officer of the company since March 1999. Prior to joining the company, Amman was chairman, president, and CEO of the John H. Harland Co.
Jortberg

Paul Jortberg has been named senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Optical Components Group at StockerYale Inc., where he will be responsible for building the company's global sales and product marketing organization, focusing on the company's optical-communication components. He will work closely with the company's key executives in manufacturing and R&D. Prior to joining the company, Jortberg was vice president of sales and marketing for an optical-fiber business unit of Lucent Technologies, which focused on the manufacture of optical fiber for both data and telecommunications networks.

Williams Communications has named Miller Williams senior vice president and general manager of the international unit of the company's network business, where he will be responsible for the strategic direction, general management, operations, and control of the international network and strategic investments business units. He will also direct the international organization in identifying, evaluating, and developing projects in keeping with the company's strategy and capabilities.
