icg Communications announces two key appointments

William J. Maxwell has been appointed president of icg Enterprises, a new structure within Englewood, CO-based icg Communications Inc. He had been president of icg Telecom Group Inc. since December 1992. Before joining the company, he was associated with WilTel Inc. and MidAmerican Communications Corp. Sheldon Ohringer has been named president of icg Telecom Group, where he served as group vice president of marketing and business development since July. Former employers include US Long Distance and Telecom usa.

William W. Peck, former vice president and general manager at Kodak, has been named president and chief executive of Albuquerque, NM-based LightChip Inc., a joint venture between LightPath Technologies Inc. and Invention Machine Corp. He had spent more than 25 years at Kodak. Mark Fitch has been appointed vice president of marketing and sales at LightPath. Most recently, he was vice president of operations at Geltech Inc. He also spent almost 10 years at Corning Inc., where he held a series of technical, marketing, and management positions.

David M. Fellows, currently senior vice president of engineering and technology for MediaOne, has been named chief technology officer for the Denver, CO-based US West Media Group. Previously, he was associated with Scientific-Atlanta, Siemens Transmission Systems, and gte. Fellows is vice chairman of CableLabs` technical advisory council and chairman of its multimedia task force.

Charles Harrison has been elected to the board of directors of SpecTran Corp., Sturbridge, MA. He most recently served as corporate consultant on major engineering programs for Rockwell International. Former employers include Southern New England Telephone, Collins Radio, and Texas Instruments.

Marc Weisberg has been named senior vice president of corporate development at Qwest Communications, Denver, CO. Most recently, he was founder and owner of Weisberg & Co., where he provided investment banking and investment services to customers in telecommunications, multimedia, and emerging technologies.

Steve Burdon has been named chief executive of clear Communications in Auckland, New Zealand. He has been on the board of directors for 18 months. Previously, he headed British Telecom`s Asia Pacific operations and was managing director of otc, Australia`s international telecommunications company.

David H. Hardwick has been appointed chief operating officer of rsl com Europe Ltd. in London. For more than 25 years, he served with British Telecom in a variety of engineering, sales, and customer-service positions. Most recently, Hardwick was managing director of WorldCom Inc.`s office in the United Kingdom.

James M. "Jim" Berry has been appointed director of fiber operations for Alcatel Telecommunications Cable (atc), Claremont, NC. He is responsible for all operations at the company`s Claremont and Roanoke, VA, fiber plants, including day-to-day operations of the Claremont plant and the company`s fiber sales in the United States. Berry has 23 years` experience in the telecommunications industry, mostly with Alcatel. Ric Johnsen has been named director of fiber-optic cable operations for atc and is responsible for operational management of the Claremont facility. He has held various management positions at Alcatel.

Kamalesh Dwivedi has been appointed vice president and chief information officer of adc Telecommunications Inc., Minneapolis, MN. Previously, he worked at Scientific-Atlanta Corp. and Computervision Inc. Dwivedi has also led product development and information technology functions in Canada, Norway, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Hong Kong, and Japan.

David W. Hennage has stepped down from his position as executive director of the Optical Society of America but will continue as director of special projects.

Mike Despotes has been named senior vice president of sales at nec Electronics Inc., Santa Clara, CA. He joined the company in 1981 as a district sales manager and has held a variety of positions, including regional manager, national sales manager, and vice president of sales. Previously, he worked at Ford Motor Co.

Mike Jones, a 20-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, has been named vice president of construction and facilities engineering at ixc Communications Inc., Austin, TX. Former employers include Diamondback International Inc. and mci Communications.

Andrew C. Shields has been appointed vice president of international carrier relations at rsl Communications Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda. He has 18 years` experience in communications management, most recently as vice president of international business development at lci International. Former employers include mci International and Northern Telecom.
