June 15, 2005 Petah Tikva, Israel -- ECI Telecom has introduced its BroadGate-40, a miniature multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP) designed for metro access and Wide Area Networks (WANs). The company says the platform's scalable architecture allows for the provisioning of carrier-class Ethernet services over SDH to meet the needs of medium and large enterprises, utility companies, and cellular operators.

The platform features an integrated narrowband crossconnect, which includes low bit rate interfaces such as voice channels and V24/V35 for data services. The company says these capabilities enable cellular operators as well as utilities to remotely control various types of equipment sets in a unified manner from a Base Station Transmitter (BTS) or substations, eliminating the need for multiple conversion units. Also, the company says the platform's powerful Layer 1 and Layer 2 Ethernet capabilities allow fixed line carriers and utility operators to offer revenue-generating data services such as L2 VPNs, virtual private LAN services (VPLS), and enhanced Ethernet connectivity.

The BroadGate-40 supports standard TDM services starting from 64 Kbit/sec (DS0) through DS3/E3 and up to STM1 and STM4. According to the company, with its network management system, the platform delivers full remote management from the same box with support for multiple interfaces and traffic types, for reduced capital and operational expenditures.

The current release of the BroadGate-40 platform supports SDH transmission only.

"Adding this latest miniature MSPP to our optical product portfolio gives the XDM platform ultimate breadth and depth - it allows ECI to extend its MSPP capabilities from metro access to regional, and right to the core of optical networks," concludes Eran Dariel, executive vice president and general manager of ECI's optical division. "We believe the BroadGate-40 will greatly benefit utilities and cellular operators looking to increase their revenue streams while reducing costs."
