Market Watch: EO modulators seen serving 40G optical transmission market

Aug. 1, 2005

According to a market forecast study from ElectroniCast (Belmont, CA), worldwide consumption value of electro-optical (EO) modulators in the 40-Gbit/sec optical communications market reached more than $1.6 million last year. However, the study projects that by 2007, as chromatic dispersion and polarization-mode dispersion problems are addressed and average selling prices decrease, the value for EO modulators serving the 40G market will increase to $74.4 million.

The “ElectroniCast Optical Modulator Market Forecast Data Base” provides a 10-year forecast, listing optical-modulator technology types used in multiple transmission rates, as shown in the report’s database category list.
