Report: Gigabit switch equipment bolsters LAN switch market in U.S., EMEA regions
June 23, 2005 Scottsdale, AZ -- According to reports from Synergy Research Group, the LAN switch markets in both the U.S. and Europe/Middle East/Africa (EMEA) regions saw growth in sales of Gigabit and content switching products in Q1 of 2005, despite slow overall growth in the switch market as a whole. According to the group, the U.S. led the way in sales of Gigabit switching products, posting moderate-to-high sequential growth, with the strongest market measured being the one for Fixed Gigabit Layer 3 products, which posted 23% sequential growth.
"While overall demand for EMEA and U.S. switch sales proved sluggish in Q1, requirements at the edge of enterprise networks are screaming for attention such as QoS for VoIP and video, multicast support, and anomaly detection," contends Joshua Johnson, senior analyst at Synergy Research Group. "This is [translating] into healthy demand for enterprise switch gear with increased functionality and sophistication."
According to the group, in Q1 2005, U.S. share rankings in the LAN switch market saw Cisco leading, followed by Nortel, Foundry, Hewlett-Packard, and Extreme. Share ranking for the same period in the EMEA region also saw Cisco leading, followed by Hewlett-Packard, Nortel, 3Com, and Extreme.
The reports, "Q1 2005 EMEA LAN Switch Market Shares" and "Q1 2005 U.S. LAN Switch Market Shares" also contain LAN switch market share information on the 10-Gigabit Ethernet, content switch, and unmanaged Gigabit segments.
