Lucent, Telindus picked to provide Holland's Essent Kabelcom with optical infrastructure, Ethernet services
July 5, 2005 Hilversum, The Netherlands -- Lucent and Telindus have been selected by Essent Kabelcom, a leading cable company in the Netherlands, to deliver next-generation optical systems and software in support of Essent's Ethernet-over-optical deployment for select enterprise customers. Telindus will deliver, commission, test and perform ongoing technical support and maintenance services for the optical systems, which will be provided by Lucent.
Under the terms of the contract, Telindus will supply Lucent's Metropolis ADM Multiservice Mux, Metropolis AMS compact access multiplexer, Metropolis AMU, and Navis Optical Management System (OMS), as well as technical support backed by Lucent's Worldwide Services division. Essent Kabelcom says the deployment will enable it to provide additional revenue-generating services such as transparent Ethernet Private Lines and Ethernet Private LAN services, as well as managed IP services.
"We selected Lucent as a market leader in the development and understanding of Ethernet-over-SDH," comments Bertil Kruize, purchasing manager for Essent Kabelcom. "Working with Lucent and Telindus for this project will ensure that we are able to offer secure, reliable, flexible, and cost-competitive services to our customers."
Lucent says its Ethernet-over-optical system is designed to enable a service-converged platform by working with existing optical networking infrastructure to offer cost-effective multiservice support, while eliminating the expense of creating and maintaining a separate overlay data network. The company says that with the platform, Essent Kabelcom will be able to seamlessly connect its LANs at customer locations throughout the Netherlands, through use of a standardized Ethernet "socket" installed at the customer premises.
"Our goal is to help customers by using IT to focus their business drivers," concludes Gaby Lips, managing director of Telindus Netherlands.
