LMC picks Turin's Traverse platform
May 18, 2005 Petaluma, CA and New York, NY -- Last Mile Connections (LMC) announced that it has selected Turin Networks' Traverse multiservice transport switch to provide the foundation for its LMC Centers, in support of its nationwide LMC Exchange.
LMC says the platform significantly expands the capabilities of its LMC Exchange, which it calls a neutral e-marketplace utilizing reverse auctions for selling and buying telecom bandwidth services. The company says it's using the platform to aggregate and switch customer traffic in "tier-1" cities across the U.S.
"Our vision for the telecommunications service industry took a major step with Turin Networks, as LMC has eliminated any technological obstacle in the bandwidth market," remarks Tom Gambino, vice president of network operations for LMC. "[Now] we're able to answer any customer need today and tomorrow, by delivering the desired service in the most affordable way."
LMC says the platform's versatile architecture scales seamlessly to support rates from 1.5 Mbit/sec to 10 Gbit/sec, while supporting any mix of SONET, SDH, Ethernet, and wavelength provisioning capabilities from a single platform, thus enabling a broad range of service offerings for the company's buyers, while minimizing both capital and operating costs.
According to LMC, the platform offers a high degree of interoperability with network equipment from buyers and sellers, allowing the company to provide an ideal networking environment for telecom operators, international carriers requiring SDH/SONET conversion, and service providers and enterprises offering Ethernet, LAN, and Internet services. The company says the platform allows its buyers to access thousands of buildings in metro markets served by the company, including those of Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington DC.
"We are committed to delivering scalable, flexible optical networking platforms that enable our forward thinking customers like LMC to quickly deliver next-generation services to meet the evolving demands of their customers," concludes Richard Stanfield, vice president of global sales for Turin Networks.
