nextlink Communications Inc., Bellevue, WA, plans to launch switched local and long-distance services in the San Francisco Bay Area market in the second quarter of 1998. nextlink is building a 50-mi fiber-optic network circling the south San Francisco Bay area. The initial phase of the network will include a Nortel DMS 500 switching system and interconnection to six Pacific Bell central offices.
