Advanced Lighting Technologies debuts new low-cost optical components
Advanced Lighting Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADLT) announced that a second-generation Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) filter produced by the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Deposition Sciences, Inc. (DSI), has been qualified by a provider of metro and local-loop systems who previously qualified DSI's first-generation filter.
The benefits of DSI's filters include cost-effectiveness, increased speed of transmission and reduced data transfer losses for short-haul fiber optic applications such as providing telecom access in metro systems. Using its patented MicroDyn equipment to create the filters, DSI is able to produce high volumes at significantly lower cost than other competing technologies.
The Company also announced a new product for the metro market, its IsoPower Fiber Collimator that acts as a funnel channeling light between optical interfaces. Compared with the GRIN lens based technology, this innovation takes advantage of DSI's ball lens technology, which results in improved performance and lower costs.
