AFS selects Switch and Data for points-of-presence in metro markets
American Fiber Systems (AFS), an independent provider of "dark" fiber-optic communication networks for communications service providers in mid-sized U.S. cities, and Switch and Data announced an agreement that will streamline entry to second-tier metro markets for service providers.
Under the agreement, Switch and Data's service provider customers can connect to AFS's metropolitan dark fiber network quickly and efficiently via Switch and Data's co-location sites. This agreement enables competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), Internet service providers (ISPs) and interexchange carriers (IXCs) to incumbent carriers and data storage providers to obtain both local co-location services and virtually unlimited bandwidth capacity to the metro market in one transaction.
