Nexans to supply 1,300-km cable for subsea Caribbean network

FEBRUARY 25, 2009 -- Global Marine Systems has selected Nexans to supply 1,300 km of repeatered fiber-optic submarine cable to connect the islands of Trinidad & Tobago to Suriname via Guyana. The cable system is designed to enhance communication links between the three countries.

FEBRUARY 25, 2009 -- Nexans (search for Nexans) has been awarded a major contract by Global Marine Systems Ltd. (search for Global Marine Systems), provider of submarine cable installation and services, to supply 1,300 km of repeatered fiber-optic submarine cable to connect the islands of Trinidad & Tobago to Suriname via Guyana. The cable system is designed to enhance communication links between the three countries.

Produced at Nexans' factory in Rognan, Norway, the 1,300-km cable will comprise 21 segments, with amplifiers integrated every 70 km. It will be delivered to Global Marine Systems in October 2009.

Behind this next generation of repeatered fiber-optic submarine systems are Nexans, Global Marine Systems Ltd. and Huawei Marine Networks, a Chinese manufacturer of telecom accessories.
