5G, FTTH to push single-mode fiber sales to $6.81 billion by 2025: Allied Market Research

Jan. 17, 2019
The global market for single-mode fiber will more than double from $3.02 billion in 2017 to $6.81 billion in 2025, predicts Allied Market Research in a new report. The 10.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will benefit from the demand for single-mode fiber in support of 5G rollouts, fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments, and related applications says the market research firm in "Global Single-mode Optical Fiber Market by Type (G.652, G.653, G.655, G.656 and G.657), Applications (Telecommunication & Networking, Data Centers, CATV, Factory Automation & Industrial Networking, Military and Others): Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2018-2025."

The largest share of single-mode fiber purchased in 2017 was G.652; the fiber type composed about 87% of the total market revenue, thanks to its popularity in long-haul and metro-city fiber-optic networks. However, Allied Research expects G.657 single-mode fiber to see the highest CAGR during the forecast period at 19.8%. The fiber’s bend tolerance will see it used extensively in FTTx and enterprise networks, the report states.

While the majority of single-mode fiber deployments will occur in telco networks, Allied Research expects the current interest in fiber deep architectures among cable operators will lead to a CAGR of 16.5% through 2025. And while the Asia-Pacific market accounted for more than two-thirds of the revenue single-mode fiber sales generated in 2017, North American sales are expected to exhibit the largest CAGR, 14.8% during the forecast period.
