July 24, 2006 Salt Lake City, UT -- American Fiber Systems (AFS), a provider of metropolitan fiber optic network infrastructure and wholesale transport services, announced the successful completion of its Salt Lake City Fiber Optic Metro Network expansion. The company views the enhancement as an important step in accelerating the growth of its network. AFS says that the addition of two carrier hotels and two carrier POPs increases its competitive edge within the Salt Lake City metro market.
The expansion in Salt Lake City will significantly affect on-net buildings growth in the high-density business district, airport and core downtown, according to AFS. Customers in the AFS On-Net Buildings Program should see such benefits as standard pricing terms for DS-3, OC-N, and Ethernet services and committed installation intervals with fiber-optic connectivity into each building.
"Since our founding, AFS has always designed and built its metropolitan fiber-optic network footprint with our customers needs in mind first. With growth emphasis on converged applications via IP packets by our customers, we are a reliable alternative to Qwest Communications directly or in load balancing of IP traffic which requires at least two distinct fiber cable transport paths for redundancy," said Dave Rusin, president and CEO of AFS.
In the last year, American Fiber Systems has increased the coverage and capacity of its metro networks by investing in network expansion and improvements in the Cleveland, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Nashville, Atlanta and Salt Lake City markets.
