AFL Introduces new Peel & Seal Grommet System
July 31, 2006 Spartansburg, SC -- AFL Telecommunications has introduced the new Peel & Seal Grommet System, which it claims has passed stringent qualification tests and is now ready for the OSP telecommunications market. The closures equipped with the Peal & Seal System are the new LG-150, -250, and -350 sealed closures. Upgrade P&S kits are available for AFL's LG-100, -200, and -300 sealed closures. Installation of all the remaining parts in the kits will be unchanged.
According to company representatives, each grommet is designed to accommodate several cable diameters. There are a number of separated thin layers of material working toward the core of the grommet. The installer simply determines how many layers of material to 'peel' away from the core that will give the cable diameter its best fit for a 'seal.' This is determined via use of a diameter-tape measuring tool.
By wrapping the tape around the cable, the installers will be able to view markings that will direct them towards peeling away the proper number of layers from the grommet. The grommet is then placed around the cable and installed in its seat. Once the bolts are tightened via the pillow blocks, the cable is pressure-proof sealed. For installers who use a common fiber cable size, the cable will not have to be re-measured every time; the installer must simply remember how many layers must be peeled away.
Features:
• Supports loose tube, core tube, dielectric, and armored cable designs
• Installation and re-entry using common hand tools
• Accepts wide range of cable diameters
• Fast and easy to install
• Fits existing AFL sealed closures
