Colt Data Centre Services (DCS) says it has sold 12 of its European data centers to AtlasEdge Data Centres, the joint venture between Liberty Global and DigitalBridge (see “Liberty Global, Digital Colony partner for AtlasEdge Data Centres joint venture”). The facilities were incompatible with Colt DCS’s current focus on hyperscale and large-enterprise customers, according to the company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The company says the sale comes after a review of assets within the context of its recent focus on building and developing larger hyperscale data center sites in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. The 12 facilities were deemed to be outside of this focus and “better suited for an operator such as AtlasEdge, which is exclusively focused on developing the emerging colocation market across Europe,” according to a press release.
"Demand for data storage and cloud capabilities has never been higher, and so is the need for businesses to scale and find capacity. By restructuring and focusing on our hyperscale facilities, we can meet our customers' needs on demand with true scalability and efficiency, while meeting their sustainability targets," commented Niclas Sanfridsson, CEO, Colt DCS. "We are committed to ensuring a sustainable business model for the future and this latest deal will improve the returns on investment across our portfolio, which can then be reinvested into the business."
The 12 new facilities fit well into AtlasEdge’s business model and brings their footprint to more than 100 data centers across 11 countries in Europe that serve more than 700 customers. The deal also brings aboard Colt Technology Services as an anchor tenant across multiple facilities.
"We are delighted to welcome these sites into our expanding portfolio," explained Josh Joshi, executive chairman of AtlasEdge. "We are tapping into an exciting and emerging market where real time data traffic is growing and compute gravitating to the edge of the network. As this demand builds, AtlasEdge is uniquely positioned to deliver seamless, localized, and ultra-low-latency digital infrastructure to our customers - from cloud providers to streaming services and enterprises. Our approach is open, carrier neutral and collaborative, and we look forward to working alongside Colt."
