Scientific-Atlanta hires VPs

Paul Connolly has been appointed vice president of marketing and network architectures in the Transmission Network Systems sector of Scientific-Atlanta Inc. (Atlanta, GA). John Clark will succeed him as vice president and general manager, opto-electronics. Before joining the company in 1995, Connolly was with Northern Telecom`s Public Switch Group for 19 years. Clark was chief operating officer of ATx Telecom Systems.

Mike DiMarcello has been promoted to national sales manager of NSG America Inc. (Somerset, NJ). DiMarcello had previously managed the company`s West Region sales office. Also, Tim Bodenhamer has been hired as West Region sales manager. Simin Cai joined the company as East Region sales manager.

Michael D. Riley has been named director of sales for Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Artel Video Systems Inc. (Marlborough, MA). Riley has 15 years of experience in marketing and sales for the international telecommunications industry. Prior to his appointment, he was general manager at Premisys Communications Ltd.

Patricia Ann Bagnell has been hired as vice president of T Soja & Associates (Brookline, MA). Prior to her appointment, Bagnell was president of Royer Associates.

Grant Rogers has been appointed director of marketing for DiCon Fiberoptics Inc. (Berkeley, CA). Rogers brings 12 years of technical and business experience with active and passive components for telecommunications, data-communications, and optical sensor applications. Previously, he served as vice president of market development for SDL Optics Inc. and vice president of engineering for Seastar Optics Inc.

George N. Benjamin III has been named president and chief executive of BICC Cables Corp. (West Nyack, NY). Since mid-1997, Benjamin has served as president of the BICC Brand-Rex and Industrial Cable divisions of the company. In the last decade, he has managed transitions, turnarounds, new business expansion, mergers, and acquisitions for domestic and international companies in the telecommunications and electronic equipment industries.

John M. Ames has been named vice president of operations and Thomas Keenan has been elected to the board of directors at I-Link Inc. (Draper, UT). Ames has worked for more than eight years at KPMG Peat Marwick as an auditor and member of the high-technology consulting practice. Keenan is the principal of Wolfeboro Holdings, an investment firm in Wellesley, MA.

James Gardner has been appointed photonics manager and Chris Pollack has been appointed business manager, network providers, for Pirelli Communication Cables (Newport, South Wales, UK). Gardner brings 10 years` experience of supplying high-technology transmission equipment to cable-TV and closed-circuit TV markets. Pollack has spent the last 3 years as Pirelli`s country manager in Malaysia.

Joseph Cozzolino has been named vice president, general manager of Digital Transport Systems, Frank Little has been named vice president, general manager of Analog Transport Systems, and Sal Ternullo has been named vice president of North American sales at ADC Telecommunications Inc. (Minneapolis, MN). Cozzolino most recently held the position of vice president of North American sales, Little was vice president of engineering, and Ternullo was vice president of national accounts, all within the Broadband Communications Div.

Laurie Conner has been appointed vice president of marketing and sales and George Yule has been selected as vice president of operations at New Focus Inc. (Santa Clara, CA). Previously, Conner was director of corporate marketing and business development at Silicon Valley Group. Yule recently held the position of senior vice president, general manager display division, and vice president of operations at Cornerstone Imaging.

Martin Cintron has been named regional director of telecommunications at PB Telecommunications Inc. (New York City), a subsidiary of Parsons Brinckerhoff. With more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications field, Cintron was most recently the associate commissioner of telecommunications services with the City of New York`s Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. He served as the principal architect of New York City`s fiber-optic institutional network and managed the delivery of telecommunications services to numerous city agencies.

Lin Chao has been appointed general manager for the new Beijing sales office of CIENA Corp. (Linthicum, MD). He will be responsible for sales, marketing, and customer service for all of China.
