ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says it has added Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) and Ethernet LAN (ELAN) features to its Optical Networking Edge (ONE) packet-optical transport system offering. The company also announced that Consolidated Telephone of Nebraska will deploy the ONE capabilities in its network.

The ONE line adds packet-optical transport capabilities to ADTRAN’s flagship Total Access 5000 platform to link access and core networks. The new features now enable the Total Access 5000 with ONE to support multi-ring architectures and extended reach, ADTRAN asserts. These new features will better position the company to help customers support the roll out of high-bandwidth services through 4G/LTE and similar mobile broadband initiatives, wireline broadband infrastructures such as fiber to the home (FTTH) or node (FTTN), and cloud computing initiatives, ADTRAN adds.

Consolidated Telephone is the latest ONE customer, having recently signed a deal to add ONE capabilities to its fielded Total Access 5000 systems. The upgrades will enable Consolidated, a subsidiary of Consolidate Companies, Inc., to enjoy end-to-end service aware networking as it serves its footprint that covers 26 communities and nearly 8,900 square miles in west central Nebraska, ADTRAN says.

“As more high-value, high-bandwidth services become available to our residential and business customers, our network is expanding faster today than ever before. ADTRAN is uniquely qualified to help us scale to allow us to stay ahead of demand,” said Jason Axthelm, CTO, Consolidated Telephone Co. “The introduction of the multi-ring Ethernet service capabilities enables us to deliver a simplified, easily managed framework for middle-mile service expansion.”
