Data center and cloud services supplier TierPoint says it will expand its data center in Seattle's KOMO Plaza. The company says the project will see the addition of 18,000 square feet that will include new raised floor, office, and support space that will feature fully redundant and generator-backed power; high-efficiency cooling; multi-layer physical security that TierPoint asserts will meet stringent regulatory compliance standards; and diverse network connectivity through 15 carriers and onramp providers. This last group includes AWS Direct Connect, TierPoint added.
"We already have commitments from customers for some of the expanded capacity, and additional room to support the robust demand we're seeing for colocation and cloud solutions in the Pacific Northwest," said TierPoint Region Vice President Boyd Goodfellow. "Seattle is a key market for us and one of the fastest-growing markets for IT and other technology companies in the country."
TierPoint expects the expansion area to be available to clients later this year. The project will bring the total facility to nearly 3.5 MW of installed critical load capacity, scalable to 5.0 MW.
The company operates more than 40 data centers in 20 U.S. markets and eight multi-tenant cloud pods. These facilities are connected via a coast-to-coast network. TierPoint's footprint received a boost when it acquired Windstream's data center facilities in 2015 (see "Windstream to sell data center business to TierPoint").
