IP backbone services company Hurricane Electric says it has opened a second point of presence (PoP) in Boston. The new PoP at the CoreSite BO1 data center in the Boston suburb of Somerville complements Hurricane Electric’s first PoP in the Markley Group facility at One Summer Street in Boston.
CoreSite BO1 features more than 253,000 square feet of data center space and can support high-density, computer-intensive requirements. It also provides access to a variety of network, cloud, and IT providers in addition to Hurricane Electric. The IP services provider will offer network capacity through 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE), 10GbE, and 1GbE ports at the site. Hurricane Electric’s global network supports more than 20,000 BGP sessions with more than 9,000 different networks via more than 250 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports, the company asserts.
The second PoP highlights the fact that Boston’s community life science, hospital, university, and related industries require additional IP transmit options and further access to Hurricane Electric’s global network, according to the company. “We’re excited to launch our second point of presence in Boston,” said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. “Hurricane Electric looks forward to offering Greater Boston’s bustling economy increased connectivity options to meet their demanding network requirements.”
