Equinix offers access to Hibernia Express transatlantic submarine cable

Interconnect and data center services provider Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX) says that it now offers direct access to the Hibernia Express transatlantic submarine cable system. The subsea network, which recently went into service (see "Hibernia Express transatlantic submarine cable network ready for service"), offers what both Equinix and Hibernia assert is the lowest latency route between New York and London – specifically, the Equinix NY4 and LD4 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers.

The subsea network, which recently went into service (see "Hibernia Express transatlantic submarine cable network ready for service"), offers what both Equinix and Hibernia assert is the lowest latency route between New York and London – specifically, the Equinix NY4 and LD4 International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers.

The two companies quote a round-trip latency transmission of less than 58.95 ms. This figure should prove appealing to financial services firms looking to connect facilities in the two cities, Equinix believes.

LD4 is part of Equinix's London Slough campus, which also contains LD5 and the new LD6. The campus houses more than 200 financial services firms and provides Europe's largest FX electronic trading ecosystem. In fact, 25% of European equities trades originate at the site, Equinix asserts.

NY4 is part of the firm's Secaucus campus. Approximately two-thirds of all electronic transactions in the equities, derivatives, and foreign exchange markets occur in the campus, which Equinix says makes the site the world's largest trading venue.

Hibernia Express will offer 100-Gbps connections between the two cities; 200-Gbps links are available between Dublin and London.
