DECEMBER 14, 2006 -- The demand for triple-play services is expected to drive the deployment of GPON-based products over the next decade, and the company sees this area as the highest growth segment in the telecommunications field.

DECEMBER 14, 2006 -- Alphion Corp. (search for Alphion), a privately held company that develops, manufactures, and markets communication systems, sub-systems, and integrated photonic components based on its proprietary QLight technology, today announced the establishment of research, development, customer support and manufacturing centers at Mumbai and Bangalore in India to support the rapidly growing demand for its FTTx products in Asia.

Alphion sells to service providers and OEM customers in the communications, CATV, fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP), fiber-optic sensing, and defense system markets.

The QLight products are used in an array of applications in the rapidly emerging market for passive optical networks (PON) as well as photonic regeneration, amplification, wavelength management, photonic routing, and fiber-optic sensing.

"Alphion has demonstrated its commitment to the Asian marketplace by establishing research, development, customer support, and manufacturing centers in India," contends Dr. Bharat P. Dave, Alphion's chairman, president and CEO. "The demand for advanced FTTx networks in the Asian marketplace is expected to grow exponentially over the next few years."

According to Alphion representatives, the company provides complete end-to-end FSAN ITU.T G.984-compliant GPON equipment, including optical line terminals (OLTs), optical network terminals (ONTs), and passive splitters. The company says its media access controller (MAC) and advanced mezzanine card (AMC) provide cost-effective solutions that reduce OEMs' time-to-market. The AOLT-4000 supports the full range of FTTx services, say company representatives, who note that Alphion also offers a full line of ONTs for use in private residences (SFU), small businesses (SBU), and multi-dwelling units (MDU).

The demand for triple-play services is expected to drive the deployment of GPON-based products over the next decade, and the company sees this area as the highest growth segment in the telecommunications field.
