May 18, 2006 Paris, France -- Alcatel announced that it has been selected by Naya Tel (Pvt.) Ltd. of Pakistan to supply equipment for the region's first fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to deliver a high-bandwidth triple-play (voice, video and data) services to over 30,000 subscribers in the capital city of Islamabad.
"Alcatel has been chosen as the preferred supplier by Naya Tel, due to their proven solutions in the field, and their technology and business partner approach to this challenging project in Pakistan", commented Wahaj-us-Siraj, CEO of Naya Tel.
Naya Tel is an independent telecom operator in Pakistan and is currently installing the first FTTH project in the city of Islamabad. The project would deliver broadband data and Internet, next-generation voice services, and cable-TV to the home and to corporate customers. The first phase of the project has been tested and commissioned; installation in most residential sectors will be competed by August 2006.
Naya Tel will deploy the Alcatel 7340 Fiber-to-the-user (FTTU) platform, as well as the Alcatel 5020 Softswitch. The latter will enable scalable VoIP as well as multimedia services.
