Alaskan telecom service provider selects Enablence for FTTP roll-out
JANUARY 11, 2010 -- Enablence Technologies Inc., a supplier of FTTH equipment for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and subsystems for access, metro, and long-haul markets, has been selected by Ketchikan Public Utilities Telecommunications Division as its access partner for an FTTP roll-out in the community of Ketchikan, AK.
Ketchikan Public Utilities (KPU) Telecommunications Division is owned by the City of Ketchikan and serves a community of approximately 14,000 residents. KPU will deploy a network that facilitates the transition from DSL to fiber and provides a more compelling bundled service offering to business and residential customers that includes high-speed voice, data, and digital HDTV. KPU turned to Enablence, building on a longstanding relationship in which Enablence was its system supplier for its traditional ADSL and ADSL 2-based voice and data services over a copper-based network architecture.
Through a contract worth approximately $660,000 over the next three years, Enablence will provide KPU with its MAGNM-20 Chassis for an active FTTH network and the indoor and outdoor versions of its E-1320 optical network terminal (ONT). This deployment is expected to provide KPU with futureproof technology supported by Enablence.
"We believe Enablence has a technologically superior solution for our needs, and we have always been impressed by overall service and its outstanding customer support track record," says Van Abbott, KPU division manager. "We enjoy a level of trust and openness with this relationship that distinguishes Enablence."
Enablence says its MAGNM-20, purpose-built for Ethernet/IP, is the first fully distributed multiservice access platform (MSAP) with IP/Ethernet at its core that provides a near terabit-per-second capacity that scales to meet current bandwidth requirements and future needs for bandwidth expansion.
"KPU's reliance on Enablence as a trusted partner for its evolving needs is a strong endorsement of our commitment to serving the current and future requirements of our customers with solutions that work with their existing infrastructure," says Arvind Chhatbar, chief executive officer of Enablence.
