JULY 27, 2010 -- Radius Infratel Pvt. Ltd. of India has signed a contract with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) to meet the growing demand for broadband access across India via an open access fiber to the home (FTTH) network. Radius will build on previous FTTH deployments with a new build aimed at 600,000 households and businesses using Ericsson's EDA 1500 GPON system and passive fiber portfolio.
H S Singh, managing director of Radius Infratel, said, "Ericsson's GPON solution has enabled our Neutral Access Network Operation( NANO) concept that facilitates various operators in delivering their bandwidth-ich applications like IPTV, multimedia contents etc and accommodates various building management and home automation services. With this path breaking alliance, we are committed to redefine the broadband experience in India."
Consumers will be able to enjoy internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps, IPTV, and other bandwidth-intensive entertainment from multiple operators via the open access GPON FTTH network.
Gowton Achaibar, head of Region India, Ericsson, said, "This agreement confirms the great potential for GPON/FTTX technology in India. We expect that by 2015 more than 2 million Indian homes and businesses will be connected to high speed broadband using GPON technology."
The end-to-end fiber access offering includes Ericsson's EDA 1500 GPON system as well as Ribbonet air-blown fiber and Micronet micro-cable. The contract also includes systems integration, consulting, training and support services for Radius Infratel.
